Eggs and Fish is a hand-painted artwork by Lorenzo Usicco, an original piece of contemporary still life created on canvas using oil and acrylic (100 × 70 cm) with a handmade frame (121 × 91 cm) made by the Artist himself. A work at an extraordinary price considering the actual effort and time invested in its creation.
The artwork stems from the dialogue between figurative tradition and the artist's expressive need.
The composition, subjects, and lighting scheme recall classical painting, but it is the brushwork – rapid, dynamic, instinctive – that defines its contemporary essence.
A swift stroke not as an imitation, but as a natural evolution of a different time: today, the great patrons of the past no longer exist, and painting must breathe a new, current, rapid, essential rhythm, but for Lorenzo Usicco this will never preclude the narrative intensity of his painting: "as he says" in which the Venetian-Italian artistic origin will always be glimpsed.
The objects depicted are all real and part of the artist's daily life: the rug, the baskets, the eggs, the fruit, the vegetables.
The fish becomes a symbol of transience and the necessity of survival, an invitation to recognize the beauty of what nature offers.
The eggs and the flower evoke life that continues, rebirth, and possibility, but also fragility. The bread reminds us of the sacredness of our lives.
Fruit and vegetables celebrate the precious, simple, and generous gifts of the earth.
This still life, while recalling tradition, reveals a modern meaning upon closer inspection: the past as a living memory, the present as pulsating matter, the future as a desire for rebirth and fulfillment.
Lorenzo Usicco's painting does not copy what has been: it reinterprets it, brings it closer to our present day, and returns it to tomorrow with a universal pictorial message and a new language. Thanks to a timeless gesture capable of building a bridge between yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
